Linda Kim, LCSW-C

Therapist at Bethesda Counseling Services
For so many people, feelings of depression, anxiety, loneliness, frustration, disappointment or exhaustion are “just another day.” It can be hard to see a way out of it or to thrive in the midst of it. And even when you hear people say, “It doesn’t have to stay this way,” you find it hard to believe that your life could ever have lasting changes. With your history, circumstances, family, children’s needs, or genetics, you feel your life is stuck this way, and the life you once wanted just isn’t realistic. Your thoughts are filled with doubts that your relationships with your significant other, children, friends, family, or yourself, could ever get better.
Whether you are someone who wants to deepen your insight into how your past is contributing towards current struggles, a couple who needs tools to communicate more effectively, or a parent who wants support in helping your child to thrive, I want to come alongside you and to help you feel less alone. In a safe space, we can identify what you want most and move you closer towards a life that aligns with your values.
I am experienced providing mental health services to children, teens, adults, and families. I use a combination of approaches and techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion-focused, Acceptance, Motivational interviewing, Solution-focused, and Gradual Exposure in my interventions. When working with kids, I incorporate play as well to keep them engaged and connected. I am experienced providing evidence-based treatments that reduce symptoms due to trauma disorders, depression, anxiety, and attachment concerns. I have also treated foster/adoptive families, families navigating life transitions, ADHD, psychosis, suicidal ideation, and behavioral challenges. Prior to becoming a therapist, I gained valuable experience from my background in Crisis Counseling, Homeless Case Management, Early Childhood Education, and caring for children with disabilities including ASD, ADHD, Apraxia of Speech, and Spina Bifida.
When I’m not in a therapy session, I enjoy playing sports (especially basketball!), board games, writing, traveling, and trying to find the best NY Style Pizza places.
I look forward to meeting you!
