Samantha Hetchkop
Therapist at Bethesda Counseling Services
Life itself can be anxiety provoking and a lot to manage. However, there are tools to help regulate our emotions and get through different life situations.
My experience as a therapist, an elementary school teacher, and a soccer coach, have confirmed my belief of the importance of mental health. I want to provide psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families as they face regular day-to-day activities and/or unexpected hardships. I’ve worked with people who suffer from anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, mood disorders, and behavior issues. In addition, I studied parenting styles and the impact they have on a child’s social and emotional development.
My personal values and experiences align with practicing therapy through a Cognitive Behavioral lens (CBT), specifically, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and other integrated forms of therapy. I appreciate positive thinking and the value it can bring to one’s emotional well-being and outlook on life. Coping strategies that clients learn in therapy can be helpful and applied in various situations.
In my free time, I enjoy playing sports, being active, and spending time with my family and friends. My favorite team is the U.S.A. Women’s National soccer team. I also love to travel and just returned from France where I saw this team defeat Sweden in a World Cup match.
I am very excited to work in this field and look forward to supporting my clients.
