    Our Story

Hi, I am Julia, I am a marriage and family therapist and the owner and founder of Bethesda Counseling Services also known as BCS. I grew up in Madrid, Spain and moved to the US almost 20 years ago with my parents and my two younger sisters. What I thought would be a temporary stay, became my home. I quit my studies to become a chemical engineering, found my passion for psychology and most importantly I met my husband Bob. We have four kids Jaime (8), Isabel (6), Charlie (3) and Peter (1) and we will celebrating our 10 year anniversary this summer. Now let me tell you about my 5th child, BCS who turns 10 years old this month!

It all started during my first pregnancy when I decided to say goodbye to working in the school system and open a home office, a place where clients would leave feeling more connected with themselves and their loved ones. As the practice grew and my family grew, I decided it was time to take the next step and build a group practice that would not only provide services to children and families but also a supportive space for therapists to grow professionally and personally. Ten years and four kids later, I have an amazing team doing exactly that. I could not have done it without my two ‘guinea pigs’, Joanna and Wendy who very bravely decided to join me in my basement and later on to our new and current office. I now have a team of 20+ therapists and coaches that have shown the professionalism, warmth and positive energy that I always imagined in a team. Some people still ask if I am seeing clients and unfortunately I took a pause two years ago after having Peter. Although I miss my clients, I have found a new passion in mentoring my therapists and making sure that BCS lives up to its mission which is to provide a nurturing and supportive environment to guide clients through their journey.

When I am not at BCS, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, visiting my family in Spain and traveling around the US. I have two cats, Hugo and Mitt who I love cuddling with while watching cooking shows.
