Caroline Poirrier
I work with adolescents and adults on a range of issues including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, emotional regulation, identity, relationships, transitions, and life stressors. I help clients make sense of their experience, develop healthy coping skills, improve their quality of life, and make progress toward their goals.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and compassionate. Shaped by each client’s unique needs and preferences, I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, relational therapy, and mindfulness. I am committed to providing culturally sensitive, affirmative, and trauma-informed care and have experience working with diverse clients including members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people of color, and individuals with international or multicultural backgrounds. I have provided clinical care in both agency and private practice settings.
I earned my master’s degree in social work with a clinical concentration from the University of Maryland, Baltimore after working as an international development professional for 15 years. Previously, I obtained an undergraduate degree in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in international development from Tufts University’s Fletcher School.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, being outside and active, reading, and discovering new places. I was born and raised outside of the United States, have lived and traveled abroad extensively, and am fluent in French and English.
Clinical Licensure: Licensed Master Social Worker (Maryland) and Licensed Graduate Social Worker (DC).
