Sammie Richardson

Hello! I’m Sammie Richardson a Licensed Clinical Social Worker born and raised in Maryland.

Over the last couple of years I have provided therapy for children, adolescents, and adults in multiple settings including in-person and virtually. Previously, I worked in treatment foster care where my focus was counseling, psychoeducation, and crisis intervention for children and families experiencing out of home care. These experiences have led me to a therapeutic approach that is heavily informed by attachment theory and is person-centered, strength-based, and trauma-informed.

In the therapy room I strive to offer a non-judgmental space. I believe the client-therapist relationship is vitally important for a successful and enjoyable therapy experience. When someone chooses to work with me, I aim for a welcoming, authentic, and supportive environment and strive to build a relationship based on trust and understanding. Each person has a unique story to tell. At times our life experiences and challenges cause us to struggle in making sense of that story which, in turn, may hinder us from living in a healthy way. Therapy provides an opportunity to explore and process these struggles and experiences while striving to process and accept our meaningful individual stories.

I incorporate a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), somatic based interventions, and solutions focused therapy among other proven techniques. I hold a trauma informed certification through Starr Commonwealth focused on building resiliency and utilizing somatic-based interventions to treat trauma. In sessions, I strive to share coping skills, techniques, and goals to help you gain the tools you need to work towards a healthier way of relating to others and the circumstances in your life. It is a privilege to be invited in to help provide a safe space to process and explore your unique life story.

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and my Master’s degree in Social Work from Salisbury University on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. When I am not in the therapy room, I enjoy being outdoors, reading, and spending time with family and friends!
