    Telehealth

Time strapped? No lunch break? Traffic? Too far of a commute?

Online counseling (aka telehealth, teletherapy, video counseling, e-therapy) is a convenient way of getting support.

Bethesda Counseling Services offers online therapy through the magic of the internet. Online therapy gives you a way to connect securely and easily from your home or office. Sessions can be held anywhere you have a private space and internet access. We use a secure and HIPAA-compliant video platform that is easy to access and meets all legal requirements to ensure confidentiality and privacy.

Does online therapy work as well as in-person therapy?

Research has shown that virtual sessions are just as effective as in-person counseling. We offer a free 15 minute consultation, so you can try it out while you decide if online therapy is right for you.

Will my online therapy sessions be private and confidential?
We always conduct online sessions in a private space to protect your confidentiality and recommend you find a private space, too.

What equipment will I need to do online therapy?
To participate in online sessions, you will need a computer (or smartphone), a built-in or external camera, a microphone, speakers, or headphones, and the latest version of your browser. You will also need to ensure your internet is working.

What if we get disconnected during a therapy session?
Technology is imperfect so occasionally we may get disconnected during a session. In the case that we are unable to connect online quickly, we will finish our session via phone.

What if I live in another state?

There are certain parameters around online counseling (aka tele-mental health) as licensed therapists in the state of Maryland. Due to regulations, we can only offer online psychotherapy to those who are located in the state of Maryland at the time of session so if you live in DC or Virginia but work or have the option to be in MD during your sessions, we can provide teletherapy. If you require psychotherapy, and are not in Maryland, we will be more than happy to help you find someone local to work with.
