Understanding Your Options for Mental Health Care

At Bethesda Counseling Services, we believe that accessing quality mental health care should be as straightforward as possible. We understand that navigating insurance benefits, therapy fees, and payment options can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Insurance We Accept

Bethesda Counseling Services is in-network with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) for eligible mental health services.  

If you plan to use insurance, your out-of-pocket costs will depend on your individual plan, including any applicable copays, deductibles, or coinsurance. 

We encourage clients to verify their mental health benefits directly with their insurance provider. Our intake team is also happy to help answer questions about the insurance and billing process. 

Please note: Insurance coverage varies by service and provider. Some services at BCS are offered exclusively on a self-pay basis. 

Self-Pay Rates 

We welcome clients who prefer to pay privately, whether they do not have insurance, have out-of-network benefits, or simply choose not to use their insurance. 

Our intake team will provide information about applicable fees before scheduling your first appointment.

Psychological Testing & Evaluations

We offer comprehensive psychological testing and evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. Depending on individual needs, evaluations may include:

• ADHD and executive functioning 
• Autism spectrum disorder 
• Learning disabilities 
• Emotional and behavioral concerns 
• Cognitive and academic functioning  

The cost of testing depends on the type and complexity of the evaluation.

We understand that psychological testing can be a significant financial investment. To help make these services more accessible, we offer flexible payment plans and a limited number of reduced-fee testing opportunities.

Out-of-Network Insurance Benefits

Although we are not in-network with every insurance provider, you may still be eligible for reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. 

We are currently out-of-network with insurance providers including Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare. 

For eligible services, we can provide a superbill, which you may submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Reimbursement depends on your individual insurance plan and is not guaranteed. 

Questions to ask your insurance provider:  

• Does my plan include out-of-network mental health benefits? 
• What is my out-of-network deductible? 
• What percentage of the session fee may be reimbursed? 
• Is prior authorization required? 
• Are there any restrictions on the type of service or provider? 

Payment & Administrative Policies

Payment: Payment is expected at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made. 

Annual Administrative Fee: BCS charges a $50 annual administrative fee per client to help support administrative services associated with care.

Cancellation Policy: A $150 cancellation fee applies if an appointment is canceled with less than 24 hours' notice.  

Reduced Fees: Limited reduced-fee opportunities may be available for certain services. Please contact our team for additional information.
